Brian Tadler just sent in this excellent link of Two Time World’s Strongest Man Champion Jouko Ahola explaining the importance of dead lifting for preparation of his World’s Strongest Man Competitions.

Check out the intensity and drive Jouko employs in his workouts that is partly responsible for his mammoth gains in strength.

Thanks Brian!

Yeah, that is a great video. Definitely hardcore intensity. Check out his back. Unbelievable physique!

Jouko really gives definition to the statement “strong to the core” - thick development in the lower back and abs! Strong abs are very often overlooked as being a key component to pulling heavy dead lifts.

On top of the intensity and hardcore factors, the video is concise and informative. Thanks for sharing the clip, Coach. It’s a good one for a young gun to watch.

I WILL DEFINATELY WATCH THIS BEFORE I DEADLIFT. AS IT REALLY PUMPS ME UP TO WANNA PULL “BIG IRON”. I’M A SUMO STLYE LIFTER. I AGREE WITH COACH CRAIG, IN THAT A STRONG CORE IS OVERKOOKED. I FIRST STARTED LIFTING 10 YEARS AGO AND NEVER DID ANY AB WORK. NOW AFTER A BACK INJURY I MAKE IT A POINT TO DO ABS TO STRENGTHEN THE CORE.

I met Jouko Ahola at the WSM Super Series at MSG back in June. I was standing next to him and we had a nice conversation about lifting and stuff. He was a real nice guy. He took a picute with me and my 12 y/o son. He is a big movie star in Finland and has really long hair and a beard for a movie role he has. He said the movie should be done in July and he will get a hair cut and shave and start training “for real” again. He said that he does not paln to compete in strongman anymore.
